“India and Japan: Roads to the Modern”

12 Sep 2014
Venue: Conference Room II, Main Building, India International Centre, Delhi
Time: 12:00 AM

The conference centres on the cultural, political and intellectual interactions between India and Japan. It seeks to focus on the flows within Asia and how these contributed to the project of modernity. The question posed is: How were ‘traditional’ cultural practices transformed and what role did the interactions within the Asian region play in shaping these transformations.

The conference will explore these cultural exchanges from a multi-disciplinary and comparative perspective, in a way that will allow us to rethink the place of these interactions as integral to the shaping of modernity in India and Japan. In particular, it aims to create a dialogue to think about Asian interactions and their role in shaping our present.
