SPECIAL THEME: Social Dynamics and Political Responses in China 

 

The Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) has been organizing the All India Conference of China Studies (AICCS) as a flagship event since 2006. Convened annually, usually in November-December, in partnership with an institution where research and teaching in China Studies is being carried out, it is meant to generate interest in and strengthen research on China Studies in India. In addition to a special theme each year, the conference also showcases a survey of recent scholarship in different aspects of China Studies, globally as well as in India. This year, the 16th edition of the AICCS will be held in Hyderabad from 16-18 November 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad and in partnership with the Council for Social Development, Hyderabad. The special theme is Social Dynamics and Political Responses in China.

Please note, in addition to the Special Theme, individual abstracts and panel proposals on all China-related topics and themes may be submitted. 

 

Key Dates:

30 April 2023: Last date for receiving abstracts (400–500 words)

20 May 2023: Notification of shortlisted abstracts

20 August 2023: Last date for receiving full papers (5000–6000 words)

20 September 2023: Announcement of final papers

10 October 2023: Last date for receiving final papers (after incorporating comments/feedback)

 

Format

We accept abstracts in the following formats:

  1. Paper Proposals should mention “16th AICCS | Paper Proposal” in the email subject. Please submit your proposal in a word document. The document should also mention the author/co-author’s name, institutional affiliation, email address, together with the title of the paper and a brief bio (150-200 words).
  2. Panel Proposals should mention “16th AICCS | Panel Proposal” in the email subject. Panel proposal should include a panel abstract, title and 4 paper abstracts. Please submit your proposal in a word document. The document should also mention the name and designation of the panel convener and the four panelists, email address and a brief bio (150-200 words).

 

Submission

The abstracts and panel proposals should be emailed to aiccs.ics@gmail.com, with a copy to 16aiccs@uohyd.ac.in.

 

Registration Fee

Researchers interested in attending the conference need to register. Standard registration fee for participants is 1000 INR but for Master’s and ongoing doctoral scholars it will be 250 INR. Registration and payment shall be made to the UoH account by 10 October 2023. Details for registration will be shared on the website soon. The best paper presented by a young & emerging scholar in the Thematic Panels will be selected for the Mira Sinha Bhattacharjea Award, which carries a prize of Rs. 25,000/-. Selection will be made by a Committee comprising senior China scholars, on the basis of originality of the topic, methodology, argument and presentation. The selected paper will be published by ICS.
