Comparative studies of Kang Youwei and Vivekananda, the modernisation process in India and China, the Communist movement in China and India and the responses of India and China to the international processes have also been carried out.

A study of the historical processes of Sino-Indian cultural interaction, research on rural reforms based on field work in China over a period of time, China's defence modernisation, educational development, and China and the emerging world order, are some of the current research projects taken up by the ICS Fellows.


The most recent and future-oriented collective project of the ICS, China : Into the 21st Century was launched in late 1993 with support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. It involves ten scholars investigating the processes unfolding in China. Research themes have been identified under such rubrics as India-China interaction, China's economy and international trade, social and political processes of change and regional development and the place of minorities in China.
