Problems and Prospects in Expanding the India China Economic Engagement - Economic and Political Issues

10 Aug 2016
Prof. Manoj Pant
Venue: ICS Seminar Room
Time: 3:00 PM

Abstract

In this presentation, the speaker will discuss the issues raised in the last decade and half on the question of India-China relations. The issues largely deal with India’s growing trade deficit with China, issues of RIAs, the state of BRICS, and foreign investment. He will also talk about what an economic partnership with China would/could entail and the prospects of an India-China FTA. India-China relations in today’s world cannot be purely bilateral and he will also discuss some unavoidable bilateral and multilateral political conflicts which could sour the relationship. While his focus will be on perceptions on the Indian side, he will also touch upon the understanding of what drives China’s engagements.
